PLAY THIS IN IT - MODPLUG DOESN'T SUPPORT >96 CHANNELS and this song gets
up to around 125 or so in places. I dunno if a newer version supports
more, coz' I haven't updated my version of MPP for ages. So if it supports
over 96, and sounds OK, fine. But version 1.4 that I have fades out some
of the violin parts where the channel counter goes too high...so listen in
IT, or it might sound disgustingly crippled...

Anyway, about the song. Here's an orchestral-type thingy. No guitars at
all. So if it ain't your thing, don't complain :)

Set was a right evil motherfucker of an Egyptian god - he killed his own
brother and also tried to kill Osiris if I remember right (or were they
the same person (well, god)? I can't remember off the top of my head). He
was originally worshipped as a god of war, but after the murder episode,
quickly became associated with evil and death. A suitable subject for a
song, methinks :)

As usual, this is all based on the egyptian scale, but of course this is
a completely acoustic song (OK, so the bass is electric...) that was
supposed to be very evil & atmospheric sounding. I'm still not sure if I
achieved that, but it still sounds good to my ears. Quite atmospheric,
definitely, with a pretty damned evil feel to it IMO...I just love it
where the kettle drums come in, it sounds really...ominous. As if
something really bad is going to happen...

I haven't used violins before in a egyptian style song because I kind of
thought it was a bit unrealistic - violins were invented long after the
Egyptians all snuffed it or whatever. But I decided that they sounded
quite egyptian and give it a real evil feel, so I used them. 

As for that pulsing sample, that was made on my guitar by quickly tapping
the strings near the pickup area with the flats of my right hand fingers,
then it went thru my Zoom 707 to pick up some chorus and reverb. I then
did the brainwave synchronizer thing in Cool Edit, so in theory if you
listen to it long enough, you'll fall asleep. I think I also gave it some
more reverb and EQ'd it  if I remember right. And then I just ping-pong
looped it.
