The initial composition was easy,
I had the perfect samples to
create the needed atmosphere.
Later on I noticed that the final
filesize was too large. It was
not right to use a 1,8MB large
song for a small game. I tried to
reduce the filesize, but I could
not bring it bellow 750KB so that
it still sounded good. So I asked
LPChip to help me out. He did
a spectacular job with the samples
and expanded the song up to its
actual full length into what we
can hear now. I hope you like it!

On a boring day like none in I
usually encounter :P, xTr1m asked
me if I could take a listen to this
song, and help him out a little bit.
He asked if I could get a 753k song
to be less in size. Since I usually
do miracles with Chip-Tunes, I was
like: oh, probably hasn't been
tampered in size, so that'll be easy.
That was a big turndown after finding
out that all the samples were already
tuned to their best setting. I could
downsample the bass samples without
harming their quality, but that took
off a roughly 100k or so. The objective
was to get the song below 200k. I've
did some more fiddling with samples.
See what samples could be downsampled.
Also tried to cut pieces of samples and
use techniques to let it not be noticed.
I managed to get the size down to 500k.
There were 2 whistles of each 240k taking
alot of space in the song. Using a nice
technique with looping and instrument
envelopes, I managed to get both to be
alot smaller, and get the filesize down
to 173k!!! Later we heard that the file-
size was allowed to be 400k, so we've
placed back one of the whistles. He
also asked if I could add something to
the song. Patterns 9 to 13 are what
I've added to the song. I'm very proud
on the drum pattern I've written. :)
Bytheway: the Stalagmite sample has been
increased in quality while lowering
the size in the song. This was done by
adding a loop and instrument envelope. :)
