Dark Worlds: Part 5
The City of Floraghan: Journey across the Silent Straight
==============================================================
After walking for at least a day along a cobbled road
through farmland and forrest, you reach the top of a
large escarpment surrounding a rather large port city.
Wow! This is just what you were hoping for. You think
bed and breakfast inns, taverns, REST! Wow!!
You are so excited you run towards the city gates.
ofcourse you are so excited you forget to look where you
are going and trip on a rather large wooden plank that
someone had lost off the back of their cart. Ok, very
embarrassing, you finally reach the gates and looking
at the sleeping guard holding a small flagon of beer in
his hand, you believe you can grab his keys and open
the gates. Not a problem. He doesn't budge or flinch a bit.
Cruising down the main street you are overjoyed with what
you see. various shops, salons, taverns, Inns and hotels.
You walk to a small Inn called "Sleep Soundly" which is what
you intend to do. After booking a room and paying the man
behind the counter 3 gold pieces for your room, you retire to
the bed and sleep for an astonishing 21 hours. After you
wake, You pay the man behind the counter an extra 2 gold
pieces for the extra time you stayed, and left the Inn. You
wonder what you should do next. All you can do is pub crawl
for snippets of information from drinkers and barmen is what
you after painful deliberation decide to do. Being a rather
nice person and talkative person this comes as no difficulty
to you. The city is teeming with life, You make your way down
the main street to the harbor. The street runs left and right
all the way along the port with waterfront commerce on one
side and stores and taverns on the other. You decide to visit
a tavern called "Sailor Byron's" After entering you survey
the scene inside. It is a very cheerful place full of half
drunken sailors and other inhabitants of the city. Some are
completely legless and others moderately having a drink with
friends. You walk up to the bar and take a seat on a rickety
old wooden barstool. After making yourself comfortable you
tap on the bar to aquire the attention of the barkeeper.
He cheerfully makes his way over to you and asks for your drink.
You order a small mug of mead. After he gives you your drink
he starts to make small talk with you, about the weather and
such, then enquires about where you are from. You tell him you
have just moved into a small farm cottage outside of the city
and have come down for the day to aquaint yourself with the place.
You continue this conversation with him for a while learning
a bit about the port city and other things. You finnish your
drink and rummage around in your pack for a gold piece to pay
for it, mistakenly while searching the Emerald amulet falls
out onto the bar. Seeing what you have done you hastily scramble
to put it back in your pack but in your extreme haste you knock
it off the bar onto the floor. The entire crowd in the tavern
becomes silent in awe as they crowd around you as you pick up
the amulet. Nervous as to what may happen next you place it
back in your pack and be ready for everything. Suddenly out
of the silence, a voice speaks. "You have come from there.
From the portals." The crowd parts as a small old man walks
forward to meet you. You reply to him yes, and you ask how he
knows this. He instead of an answer, asks another question.
"Do you have the 1st script?" To your Astonishment you
reply with a yes. The whole gathering inside the tavern gasps
in both joy and astonishment. For the next 3 hours you sit in
the tavern telling your story of how you were trapped in the
portals, how you have ventured into the depths of the jungle
world to recover the 1st script. And how you are determined
to fight and succeed in returning to your home world. The old
man then tells a story. Of how the people pay taxes and are
robbed and pillaged by the forces of Chython. How the only way
everyone can live is to make the most of the life they still
have left. This comes as no surprise to you because you are
aware of every ones cheerfulness in this city. And how this
cheerfulness is transparent to a face of fear and worry. It is
apparent to you that your presence has lifted a great deal of
that fear from the people in the tavern. The old man explains
further how this city of Floroghan is being Oppressed by Chython.
He tells of a Warlock who resides on a far offshore island.
Chython's head minion in this world. The old man also talks of a
script guarded by this warlock. He is not sure but it is told in
the tales of Taris that one day a man would come and lift
the oppression of the city by the minion of Chython. You have
the 1st script, you have the emerald Amulet and also the
mysterious white gem. This person has to be you. It must be.
You are foretold to succeed...
A whole crew of 20 men now await you to sail you out to this island.
The fact that you are here to fulfill the legend has prompted
uncountable volunteers to your aid. And in this place word travels
so fast you have nothing secret from anyone. A ship is awaiting
your use on the northern ports, your crew of hardened seamen who
have dedicated their services to you freely due to your apparent
destiny and cause are now at your disposal.
You retire in a nearby Inn for the next day while the necessary
preparations are finished. Weapons, food and other items are
prepared and stocked onto your ship ready for sailing. The Island
you are told is very small, with a small palace on top of it.
This is where the warlock lives. He awaits you there. he sees you
coming. you set sail in the morning. There is something very curious
about this Warlock though.
The sail is hoisted high above your head as you set sail in the early
morning whit your ship and crew ready to support you in your quest
for the warlock. The waters around you are very calm and quiet. Almos
t as if you are being protected. If this Warlock can see you coming,
there would be obstacles. You are ever aware that there still may be.
It is nearly night when you begin to notice a strange red luminance
coming from the horizon to the starboard bow of your ship. As you
sail closer, you begin to make out the likings of ethereal fire and
spiritual presence of a dark nature present above a small atoll up
ahead. This you surmise is your destination. Almost as quickly as
you can decide what is happening the fire and luminance sweeps down
over the island atoll and speeds along the water surface like a fast
moving wave of hell fire. You dive for cover as your vessel is engulfed
in a flaming blanket of strong squalls and hot flame. Just as quickly as
it appeared, it dispersed behind you its job now done setting your
vessel alight and damaging the ship to the point where you and what is
left of your crew are forced to abandon ship. Mysteriously 2 lifeboats
are intact. This adds to the curiousness of the situation. They are
unmarked and undamaged. You have sustained a badly scalded right arm
from the wave of hell fire. Removing the white stone gem from your pack
you embrace it against your chest. The power of the stone heals your arm
within seconds. Your 7 remaining crew look on in awe as your arm is now
healed. They now truly believe you are the one spoken of in the legend and
vow to press on.
The island is no more than an hours rowing away...
