THE GATES TO THE NETHERWORLD

LISTEN TO THIS IN IT. You can't hear the guitars or bass in Modplug.
Here's another one with the new guitar sound. Very technical sounding to
me, much more Decapitated influenced, but still with some Sentenced To
Burn-type riffs in there too, as well as the odd Cenotaphy bit...which
combines to sound very Aborted-like.
This is like "A Living Nightmare" in a lot of ways, but sounds better (but
maybe not as catchy imo). Both of these tracks sound a bit slow because of
the slower tempo blastbeats, but I decided that I was getting fed up with
having ONLY hyperspeed blastbeats, so here are som slightly better ones
that fit with the riffs more. Of course there is still a bit of
hyperblasting going on where there is a metric modulation (tempo change).
Once again, I brought that bass drum forwards in the mix much more, for
that real helicopter/M16 effect. It's such a good bass drum, I love it. It
also makes the blastbeats sound more realistic.
The vocals in this are still under debate IMO...they sound good in the
song, but there's no middle or bass in them compared tpo the rest of the
song. Also, some parts have started to sound like Cannibal Corpse since I
put them in...anyway, I also included a stereo layered-vocals section
towards the end. It sounds pretty dmna cool IMO. The last time I did that
was in the Out Of The Duat disk...
My stuff is getting more and more `professional' in terms of mixing
recently...maybe this goddamned college course is paying off after all :)
I guess that I'm still trying to get that sound that a lot of bands
have...whereas before I've mixed how I thought it should sound, nowadays,
I'm comparing it to real bands' productions.
I'm particularly happy with the drums on this one. I changed the kit
again, and I only kept the bass drum, toms, and one cymbal the same
everything else has changed...better symbals all round, a better snare,
and better hihat. I spent ages tracking the drums on this one as well -
hence the atmospheric tinkling of ride cymbals and hihats in the intro
bit. I spent ages going throgh each roll and each blastbeat individually
here, making sure that each one sounded just right...I think it paid off
in the end. I used a note offset (Oxx) command on some of the blastbeats
to take the edge off the snare and make it sound like it is being played
softer (because of the speed at which it's going). It sounds more
realistic IMO, and recently I've been trying to make my drums sound more
realistic, so I also put som eslightly 2 or 3 tick delays on the ride
cymbal during blastbeats...coz NO drummer is that tight. Except maybe Pete
Hammoura or the kid from Decapitated.

LYRICS:
=======
Standing before the gates of the netherworld
Carried here by the currents of time, a hand reaches out from beyond
I can hear the voices of the dead from behind those walls
Shouting out and cursing me for all eternity
The gates to the netherworld
Entrance to the city of the dead
[Chorus:]
Demons clawing at my consciousness
The spirits of the dead crave for human flesh
The city of the dead beckons for my soul
I hear the sound of the necropolis bell toll
Condemned to an eternity of pain
These ramparts have held tortured souls since the beginning of time
Doomed to constant punishment from those whom I have wronged
In this timeless place, all days blend into one
The gates to the netherworld
Entrance to the city of the dead
[chorus]
Name yourself, thee sinner of earth!
Condemned are ye to the dungeons of the netherworld!
From these walls shall you escape not
Here be ye until the end of time...
