DIG UP, DIG IN ================ [2:55] Original by Desecration from the album "Inhuman" Transcribed, sampled, & tracked by AxeSlash I'll assume that none of you have heard anything by Desecration before because they are a fairly underground British DM band...but ever since I saw them live supporting Extreme Noise Terror I've loved them. This is easily my favourite Desecration song by a long way, and it has also influenced a lot of my recent stuff. It's the best one on the album, and fuck, it rocks! It's very catchy as well, so you'll be wandering around for a few days mumbling "dig up a grave..." and so on. Everyone will think that you're mad, but you'll know otherwise at least :) Anyway, if you like this song, I seroiusly suggest you get the album. It's one of my favourite DM albums EVER (including Nile). Some of you may recognise similarities between this and "Nocturnal Exhumation" (this song is where I got the lyrics for Nocturnal from)...I just had to write something similar :) This cover is a little innacurate in places, e.g. the solo is mostly right, but some of it I ha dto improvise. Generally, most of it is faster than the original, except the 6/8 bits which are a little slower for some reason. I guess they recorded it all in one take with no click track or something, and just stick to the drummer deciding the tempo. This version is a lot tighter than the original for obvious reasons...and that really makes it sound a lot worse, because Desecration are kinda like "Technical death metal for grind fans who like shit production" IMO...It just sounds better with that kinda muddy sound. However, the rest of the production on this version is very similar to the original; I spent a lot of time finding drums that sound like the original, and also tweaking my guitar sound to sound like theirs does...but when I downsampled it, a lot of treble was lost, so...damn. The vocals are pretty accurate to the originals in style - ginda growly/shouty almost Napalm Death style...although in that mid section (the "scanning the obituaries..." bit), I kinda sound like Marge Simpson...ah well. Better luck next time I hope. And there may be a next time because the tempos on this version are all severely fucked up. I might just redo the whole thing whole playing along to the original, so the tempos are correct...this version is 12 seconds shorter... All guitarz & vocals by me Bass by Stygian Flies sampled from the CD Drums stolen from many places...I suspect that the China cymbal is Claymore's... Greetz: ======= Daoloth Corpse AeuK Kosm Labrat Nycto Grindire DnD Barney, Ben, Chris, & Tim: my band Endless Torment Everyone else I forgot as usual... Cheers AXESLASH http://badvoc.dhs.org/AxeSlash/index.html ftp://194.236.28.166/AxeSlash/ axe@totaldeath.com PS: I might do "Insane Savagery" if I discover I can play it as well...just in case there is anyone out there who knows of Desecration... LYRICS: ======= Excavating soil For someone dead to eat Flaying for my lunch I hunger for dark meat Sifting through sacred earth My shovel hits the casket door Nocturnal exhumation On skin and bone I'll gnaw... [Chorus:] Dig Up Dig In Dig up a grave, I desescrate Dig in for a corpse to masticate Blackened flesh, peeling skin Hypostasis long set in Mummified scraps licked from wood Dearly departed you taste so good! Scanning the obituaries I soon learn of your fate Feeding on your rotten rump Your coffin lid is my plate Sawing through your vertex To remove your liquid brain Sluicing through my fingers Not feeling any shame [chorus] [repeat verse 2]
