Black hole physics gets down to the real nitty gritty, edges of what we know about physics. And of course that's why it attracts the top theoreticians because it's a chance to make that breakthrough. You're going to unknown territory. There are suggestions that this speed limit on communication and transport, the speed of light, you can't go faster than the speed of light and you can't send information faster than the speed of light. But the physics of black hole suggests, although it's still uncertain, that there may be other ways to send information using the physics of black holes or using black holes themselves. That might imply there's some practical way to take advantage of that.
