Tale of the Chosen One
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
He grew in pain and misery, seeing his own father
slain, by a dragon-riding mage, engulfed in dragon's
fire.
He fled to the snowy hills, learning way of the outlaw,
to learn how to live, how to survive..
For years he learned, until one day his companions were
all destroyed by yet another of the mage-lords, he swore
eternal vengeance.
By acts of accidents and fate, he was led to the ways of
thievery, and for long used his newfound skills.
One day he was to rob one fine house, which was holding
a fiest by some noble people. It turned up to be a meeting
of the same Mages, that had caused him so much pain.
He wached the meeting, when one of the mages tried to show
his true power, and summoned most powerful mage of all realms,
Magister, and tried to capture him in a spell-dispelling web.
The Magister broke free, and seemingly without any effort,
destroyed utterly all the mages. Then he spoke to the boy, now
already a Man:
"Are thou one of these, of shouldst I
let thee go free?"
Man spoke:
"I would never be one of these, I
hate those who cast spells, and have
vowed to destroy them all from this city."
Then Magister said in kind voice:
"For that I've spoken to thee, since
those who hate spellcasting, make for
the best spellcasters, I can see ye
have sight of a Mage, and would make
a good one indeed."
Right then Guards of the mages burst into the room, and
Man had to escape. He slowly realised, that thievery was
not what he wanted to do.
One day he wondered to the Shrine of one lady, Holy Mystra,
and was being attacked by it's guards. Rigth then all men
froze, and he was greeted by a priestess, which spoke to him:
"Would thee use this scepter to destroy
these men, that threaten yer life,
they surely do not deserve better."
Man complied:
"I care not use magic for destruction,
especially against those who couldn't
defend themselves."
Then the priestess showed her true nature, and revealed that she
indeed was Lady Mystra, and would see the man grow as the greatest
mage of all times.
Man saw the truth in her eyes, and slowly said to her:
"This is what I want to do. Give me time,
and perhaps, in time, I shall learn..
...
..To love thee."
This was the beginning of a long long journey, and the Man faced
many dangers, many foes, and many deaths of loved ones.
In the end, Man grew to be the Chosen One of Holy Mystra, Man,
who was know as The One Who Walks, or by his rightful birthname:
Elminster, son of Elthryn Aumar.
The Beginning...
For all those who don't get it, this tale is freely (and
propably with some things wrongly remembered) taken from a
book named Elminster : Making of the mage, which I recommend
if you like fantasy-stories. Other Ed Greenwood's Elminster-books
are also very fine indeed. I'm new to the Forgotten Realms,
but so far haven't read book that wasn't good. Well, now I'm
side-tracked again..
This tune eats whole lot of channels, if you're having difficulties
playing, I suggest you limit the amount of channels to 32, or if
you have really slow machine, to 16.
This can be done by adding -lxxx command while using IT, for
example IT.EXE -L16 would limit channels to 16.
Greetings go to Warder for his samples, and for being supreme musician.
