Now here's some true, oldschool doom metal. People / media keeps
praising and praising bands like Black Sabbath (who of course do
deserve the praise) - but certain bands are easily forgotten and
underrated. If you ask my opinion - I would say, that Candlemass
did the same thing to term "doom metal", than what Death did to
"death metal". Of course Black Sabbath is the "grandfather" of doom
metal, etc - but Candlemass made the term truly known, and defined
the genre pretty much into how it's still understood: Slow as hell
(can you say that from Black Sabbath?), HEAVY metal, desperate,
pressuring - like only thing remaining -> doom(sday). The slower
and heavier, the more sad & touching & atmospheric - the better.
Candlemass' songs were often simple, but so damn gripping, massive,
melodic, beautiful ... that it was just one hell of a band thru 1980's.

OK ok ... that's the end of that story :) Couldnt help it, hehe.

Something about this mod - even before the DRI mod, I thought first
of covering Candlemass. Just cause ... well, if you read above text,
you know ;) The thing is - that this must be the most easy song to
cover, ever, in my case. It was so easy, that I wanted to somehow try
make it more "massive & melodic" - so, there's 4 channels of guitars
in this. Inspect em, and see why - simple experiment, and I think the
overall sound did grow somewhat, and I am quite happy with the result.
Thought to use the bass samples from the pack I recently released, as
their bassy / soft sound felt instantly so fitting to Candlemass music.
I am pretty sure, that the sharp guitarsound will diminish as MO3 -
so I propably pack this into OGG format too, and release later em.

Then the vocals - Big, BIG thanks to Barfington for making them!
Needless to say, this mod would be very dull as instrumental. And
talk about efficient working speed - when I gave the roughmix mo3
for Barf - for making the vocals ... I got the vocals just some 1-2
hours from that :) And what kind of vocals? Gotta praise em, a lot.
Original Candlemass vocalist (from 1980's) - Messiah Marcolin or
whatever his nickname in band was - his vocals are bit the same thing
than one King Diamond's vocals. More opera-like though, perhaps.
Clean, massive, almost beautiful vocals - which are hell to imitate
if you ask me. I would never have guts to survive from that kind of
vocals :) And so what? Just listen to these Barf's vocals, and enjoy!
Not only they fit into the mod perfectly, but ... well, this was the
2nd ever time, when I didnt have to "time" the vocals at all, all I
did was some gentle effectraping (how else ;) ... 1st time was when
I planted Cadaver's fine vocals into Dnd's Slayer cover. And take a
note - those vocals were pretty short. These are the opposite. That's
just another factor, why I was / am simply amazed of Barf's vocals.

And yep, there's some kind of "guitarsolo" in the end. Nothing too
great though - but I thought it's better than no solo at all, hehe.

No more writings, into the lyrics below - and sing along ;-)

/Aeuk

Somewhere In Nowhere (by CANDLEMASS, from "Tales Of Creation", 1989)
--------------------

Here I am
In this strange world
A different universe
Nowhere in time

I'm captured in my dreams
On this lonely journey
To find the morning light
To be me

Eternal life
Beyond the death we know
A restless soul
But am I dead?

Lost in nowhere, timeless prison
Will I ever find the reason
I wish that I could escape this dream
Can I ever return to reality?

This labyrinth
of my own feelings
A misty ocean
But where's the shore?

I know that I exist
But somehow I don't
Can't find the morning light
Can't be me

Here I am
In this strange world
A different universe
Nowhere in time

Lost in nowhere, timeless prison
Will I ever find the reason
I wish that I could escape this dream
Can I ever return to reality?
