the sky cleared suddenly and the horizon was visible. i gazed upon the
hill before me, and a curious rumble began to grow. as the noise became
louder, a strange cloud of dust began to rise from the far side of the
raised earth. a great flying beast with scales and horns and teeth first
came into my view, flying high in the sky and blocking out the sun. then,
from the other side of the hill poured a leigon of horrid creatures,
running and crawling towards me in a frenzy. a shriek escaped my mouth as
i turned to run, but i could not help marvelling at the wonderously
hideous sight of the evil pouring down the hill towards me. the noise of
their advance grew loud, sickening crunches and splats as the horde
crushed even their own members underneath the onslaught of their
stampeding. panicked, i began to run as fast as my legs would carry me.
looking to the sky for some sign of help, i called out to whatever diety
might save me, but my frightened screams were heard by no-one. i could
see more creatures running towards me from my left ... their eyes were on
fire, and their black claws grasping in anticipation. the faces of the
beasts were twisted into a hideous grin, so disturbing to me that i
couldnt help but scream again. it was then that i tripped, face first
into a dark, deep hole. i tumbled down into what seemed to be a
long, smooth tunnel leading towards the bowels of the planet. above me, a
solid stone gate shut with a crash, and all was dark. at some point, i
stopped tumbling around and began to slide, which was much more
comfortable, since i was no longer banging my head and body on the walls
every five feet.
after falling for what must have been at least twenty minutes, i began to
see a faint light in the distance below me. within seconds, i saw the
other end of the massive tube, and promptly flew right out, onto a floor
of slick marble, upon which i slid a good fifteen meters or so before
finally stopping. looking up revealed walls of speckled white and black
granite, adorned with strange tapestries and designs. a voice startled me
from behind ..
"we have been expecting you" ... the voice was frightening, so deep that i
could feel it shake my very being, but not particularily threatening.
slowly, i turned around, my eyes starting from the floor and travelling
upwards until they met the piercing gaze of a dragon. its skin was a
beautiful gold color, and its scales almost gemlike in their shine.
completely dumbfounded and awestruck, i could do nothing but make
ridiculous sounding noises and stare. before i knew it, my eyes were
rolling up and the world became black. as i would later discover, the
dragon kept me from falling to the floor, catching me with a mighty clawed
hand. but what did i care, i was exhausted and felt like sleeping for a
long while.
