| Saga Musix presents: Ethereal Voices (4:44) |
|____________________________________________________________________|
I've written this tune in 2009, but have not released it until now.
So here are some thoughts from back then...
Dark. Darkness. Pitch-Black. Night. This is dark. Very dark. I normally
don't write tunes that sound as dark as this one. Why this darkness? I don't
know. The first part is kinda spacy, chilled. Then it gets a bit rocky and
also epic. I certainly hear 80s Rock in this one.
It's a bit like with "Timelord" last year (2008), which I also wrote around
September. Maybe this month is influencing me?
Although this is pretty different from my usual styles (and I normally say
that every tune that I do is different, but with this one it's even more
obvious), I'd say that there are a few Saga Musix "trademarks" in this one:
The running background melody that doesn't really change much throughout the
whole tune :P as well as the two bar break in pattern 30 that I use so much.
Can you find more? Another new thing in this tune is the fact that this is
the first time I'm actually using VST Instruments in a tune.
But this tune doesn't only contain new stuff...
This tune brings back memories. Memories of the music of the 80s. Memories
of times when I listened to less electronic music. Is that change a bad
thing? I wouldn't say so. My taste has changed, I prefer electronic music,
but that doesn't mean that I don't listen to non-electronic anymore. It just
happens less often. I like the fusion of electronic and non-electronic stuff
and hence this tune has both.
This tune also brings back memories of times when music didn't have to be
compressed to death to appear on an album. So I've decided to leave out the
compressor / limiter completely this time. This doesn't even have fancy
sidechain compression. Just look at this tune in a wave editor. Notice the
peaks the drums generate? Yeah, that's what it has to look like...
Ok, so that's what I wrote in 2009 about this tune. I've released another
track with VSTis since then, so you may ignore that sentence. :P But it's
still worth mentioning because this track set it all off.
Since I wrote this tune in September 2009, a lot of time has passed by and
as I didn't really see a chance to use this in a demo or something else, I
decided to enter the streamed music compo at Evoke 2010 with a shortened
version of this track. Much to my surprise, it ranked 5th out of 19, beating
even many of the old stagers. ;-)
And now , you're listening to the full length, full quality version of this
tune. It's quite a big module, but it's worth it. Don't you agree?
PS: The String Theory VSTi is very inspiring.
