I used to write a lot of deep thoughts in my songs. I haven't done that in a while, but I think I will now. Just ramble. Maybe something to listen to durning this song. It's been quite a while since I've released anything. It seems like University has done to me what the military has done to a lot of the demoscene in Finland -- sucked them in and they never have time for anything else. All I have time for is to say "Yeah, I'll play that show." and then make 1 simple track for the show so I have something "new" to play. And most of the new stuff has been either 1 or 2 pattern material intended to be played "live" (see http://pots.kosmic.org), or something on my Yamaha CS1x, which I can't release in any other format than MP3. But now that Kosmic has started releasing MP3s, there may be hope for that material. I do have a lot of old material that I could release, but I'm not sure if that would be a great idea. (unless there's requests for it) I've found that I haven't been into trance at all lately. Drum 'n Bass and Minimal techno seem to have done it more for me. More dynamics. More sublty. Unexpected flow. To a certain degree I've also discovered gabber, and its changes in sublty much like minimal and ambient. (many don't see the link, though) Hmm.. last year of univeristy. Weird how it went by so fast. I'm still in a 1st year residence as well, helping out. New people every year. A big turnover in friends, but also a very large pool of people. I find in the last year, when I'm supposed to be working my hardest, being too social because of all the people I've met over the years. Just sayin'sall. I dated a girl last year, the longest I've ever dated anyone. 7 months. Significant in my relative case. I never really dedicated anything to her, although she helped me a lot at times and I never regonized it at the time but I am now that I've had a chance to analyze the situation. This song, in fact, has been the only song created during a time when I've been in love. Strange to think that. So this is dedicated to Andrea Rimbault, who I saw so much in, but who could never take the leap.. Munch on that. And, also as a result of roommates who I wasn't sure I'd get along with, but discovered this song when a roommate of mine lent me a Big Sugar CD when I first moved in. If you haven't checked out Big Sugar I suggest you do. They're one of the few good rock bands out there that's got balls but is not pretentious. They have a very good grounding in blues and raggae. The bass player played nothing but Raggae for his carrear (and he's not near my age, that's evident) so you can hear the influence. They work in 3 bar signatures, it's cool. Worked at a web deisgn company this past summer. It was neat. If you asked me what I wanted to work as for ths past 3 years, I said "A sysadmin for a multimedia company." And here I was, a sysadmin for a multimedia company, who mostly specialized in web desing. http://www.nkaos.com I first had contact with the people at a rave 4 years ago, and they had started on an online Zine called NIMM. They did an interview on me on the spot, and a year later they published it. Then a bunch of my friends dropped out of the world and became employed by them. I visited the place and found out why it was so absorbing: It was lots of fun to work there. Everyone was motiviated. Everyone had some sort of above-average strength about them. I loved their design sense, and thinking about 2 years ago "That would be cool to work there." . And so there I was. So don't stop looking forward, because it will happen. Overall I wish I could have put in even more than I did. Hmm.. This is a "spew". I haven't done one in 4 years. I used to have this theory that if I opened my life up to the world, and in a stage of my life where I was in development, that the feedback I would get would be from a broad range of people, so taking in that cross-section of influence would shape me into some sort of average, get-along-with-everyone sort of person. And you know.. I keep getting told it works. Good experient, eh. :) It's like a social self-conditioning experient. Essentially it was just me spewing out my thoughts, raw an undeited, for the mass public, and letting them respond to them. I went into groups and just dropped stuff, and see was people said. It was fun. And the tradition started in some places. NaNeet-Teen mostly in Canada was one example. Then later alt.kis-talk, and even in #Teens in IRC. Aparently I'm a "founder" or "elder". It's weird having that sort of title, that lives on in their FAQ's and folklore. I pop in once in a while and end up meeting old faces. Weird that sense of extended community.) Still, the amount of times that I would say something would come back and screw me started to occur more frequently, so I just weend myself off of it. People just don't know what to do with that sort of loaded information. Sorta soured the experimet, you could say. I'm really starting to think that I just don't have the knack for techno anymore. I've found very little music lately that really inspires me to write something. I've also had considerably less time, and much many more things to do and occupy my time. It's a really shitty balance. It was better when I was in high school and had a lot of time to BBS and download... crap, essentially. I remember using DesqView in a 2 meg 386 to run Telemate and Offline Express and multitasking on a high speed 2400 baud modem because I read mail so much. I knew how to juice resources like a SOB. And installing multi-use DOS based systems (who's names I can't remember). I even used to run multi-tasking programs in a 8086 laptop, my first computer with a 1200 baud modem. Man. I'm so dated. What did I start talking about at the beginning of this paragraph? All I seem to be able to do is make 1-bar loops and tweak them. Althought that's cool and all, it just doesn't seem to be as fufilling as a whole, because I know individuals who make music like that are only capable of that style, and I know how to create music with much more complexity. I've been listening to a lot of "drill 'n bass" lately. More of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. That music is mindblowing on a sequencing level. Aphex Twin has such an amazing grasp on "sound". It's like putty. Listen to things like Bechephalus's Bouncing Ball on his Come To Daddy album (one of his best I think) and you'll understand. Also Autechre is fun. One of the best concerts I've been to was seeing Autechre 3 years ago. The last time I spewed in a .mod description, I had it quoted back to me in #trax. It was freaky. I felt stalked. I got a voicemail 1-800 free voicemail number in the US that you can call and leave voicemail on and I can check it on the Internet. If you want to call it, email mentalfloss@techno.ca and I'll give you the number. (so I'll know to check because a message has been left) I'm thinking of getting mentalfloss.org. Should I? I just want to say something about Maelcum's gimping our asses to "klik on my bannerz!#$!". Although we're feeling a little gimped by it, it does have a sane justtification other than Maelcum gets some weird pleasure in having so many people touch him virtually via cliththroughs on the Internet. Kosmic has grown substantially, and our web server pumps out 10 gigs a day of stuff. That's probably your entire hard drive 3 times over. Cliking on bannnerz helps Kosmic get funding to justify our (currently donated) fat pipe. If not, we can't distribute stuff. So just invest maybe 2 days of clicking on the banners, just once a day, and that will be the enough for us. It will be like buying our CD, except no money, just 4 mins of your time. And I didn't even cry saying that. Oh my god. I was going to spew more, but just hit the limit. Will it crash a nonstandard IT implementation? .oO.
