this is definitely the longest thing i've ever done. and i thought five
minutes (the universe is dark, pressure test, copy/paste/duplicate) was
pushing my limits...

these guitars were a huuuuge pain to tune properly, and i'm still not
really sure whether or not it sounds right. i'm like, tonedeaf or
something.


and speaking of the samples...

the click is taken from chris jarvis' "firestorm" (which any it-user ought
to know ;), the smooth kick is from "56 split" by beaner, the palm mute is
from some song by digitull but i'm not sure who actually made it (sorry),
and the bass... hah. i've changed the bass like 20 times, and i don't know
who made it, d'oh.

the last two samples were recorded from my guitar, and in fact the second
one is just a copy of the first one with distortion added -- with nothing
but the tracker... alt-a and alt-m are great for distorting stuff -- plus
a rez filter, also using just the tracker. you can do a lot of samplework
without an editor. :)

the rest of the samples (or at least some of them) are from hunz, namely
"error 666" if i'm not mistaken (which i may very well be... it's happened
before).


a bit of useless trivia: the original title for this song was "shine",
which became the original name for my laptop before i changed it to
something less dopey ("squarewave", as some of you may know) and renamed
this song to "anger feeds on pride". later on i wrote a set of (stupid)
lyrics, gave up on them, and renamed the song to what it is now, "2084 the
new revolution". this name isn't new, though -- it happens to be the
title i gave to a collection of music i put on a cd a while back, some of
which i subsequently made available, some of which simply got thrown out
because it sucked. ;) the rest of the songs on that cd were recycled for
this collection ("duct tape and crowbars", if you haven't been paying
attention).
if you're wondering what this title actually *means*, well, the year 2084
comes up a lot in fiction. for instance, total recall is set then, and as
it's 3 in the morning and i'm tired, i don't remember what else there was,
but there's a bunch of stuff, trust me...
and! while i'm on the subject, and speaking of 3 in the morning, a friend
of mine and myself were [is that proper grammar? no matter how i phrase
that it still sounds wrong] talking late one night and we decided that, as
a result of a huge government conspiracy, dogs will eventually become
super-intelligent and take over the world: their plan has already begun,
by enforcing dog licenses and having people wear dog tags in the military,
and they are carefully observing our every move, studying and learning
about everything we do. soon they will proceed to the next part of their
evil plot, sneaking into supermarkets to steal the avocados, for they hold
the answers to the ultimate questions of life that philosophers have been
contemplating all these years. after that, it is only a matter of time
until they will dominate life on earth and force us humans to do their
bidding. if we do not act soon, this will be the new revolution, the end
of what we call life.
so: if you see a dog in the supermarket, HIDE THE AVOCADOS AND CAPTURE THE
DOG. otherwise, we may be in for a grim future.
