"Spirit Sendoff"
by Amanda
(c) 1998
Samples- violin from "Lucent Intentions" by Novus, flute, bass, and drums from
Maz's samplepack. Brass from Nightbeat's "The Dawn of Pendragon," electric
guitar from "Keys to Imagination" by Jogeir Liljedahl, the storm and wind
from "Midnight Storm" by Cheech the Sneech.
I wrote the first few patterns of this song but then wasn't sure what to do with
it, so I saved it and forgot about it. A couple of weeks later I found it again
and wrote the rest of the song.
What I like about this song is that there are different parts to it- the
beginning is calm, then it becomes louder and darker, then there's the
electric guitar part, then the second part repeats but is brighter
(by putting it back into a major key, which is how it was in the beginning).
Like "Finding My Way" and "The Stream," my mom came up with the title
(I can write songs but I can't come up with names for them!). She told me that
parts of it made her think of a funeral (the drums and storm sound effects made
her picture it as some type of traditional Native American ceromony), but
because the entire song wasn't depressing we decided a title like "Funeral"
wouldn't be appropriate. "Spirit Sendoff" was a more optimistic title and fit
the mood of the song.
