.a high quality non-chippy chiptune.
.by welti/twain.
Hello folks!
I really hope you enjoy this a bit unusual song. This is no easy material,
no standard song which you listen with modplug and then throw away..
Well, yes. you can do so, and you probably *WILL* throw it away then :) :)
1. Playing the song.
I just want to say, this song will sound terribly wrong (really
destroyed) with most usual players, even impulse tracker plays it wrong
in many cases.
To play the song correctly, you must follow these rules:
- use Impulse Tracker V 2.14 P3 (or higher)
- Do *NOT* use Hardware Mixing (like Gus, Awe32, EWS64).
The song will only sound correct with SOFTWARE mixing!
- You can use MMX software mixing drivers. In this case, use the
selection : "MMX, Volume Ramped" in the Shift-F5 screen.
- With non-MMX software mixing, you *MUST* select 32-bit mixing
in the Shift-F5 screen! The song takes more as 64 voices, but
you can lower the limit to 32 voices without problems, if your
PC is not that fast.
- If you dont have MMX, and your PC is too slow for 32bit mixing, you
still could use the WAV-writer. Even the Mono Wav-writer will
give a good result; this song is fully mono-compatible and doesnt
rely on weird stereo effects.
2. Motivation.
This song should reach several aims: It should be small, and it
should sound quite "big" and "hi-fi". It also should be a good song
of course.. and most important, it should please me :)
It is no overstatement to say that this is quite some piece
of experimental tracking. Many wave-sequences of chip-loops were
used to achieve complex sound movement at low memory cost, all of
those were calculated with little pascal programs which were coded
especially for this purpose :) There are some other very special
calculated chip-loops too, for example the primenumber wave, the
heavily detuned "additive mysteries" sound, the "longloops" section
which realizes some size-optimized non-chippy sounds, the distorsion
wave, the infamous chip-chords (i guess those are an invention of me:)
There are also quite some sampled sounds.. the problem about drums is,
that they usually need alot of memory if they should sound decent..
ok, this part is not really innovative.. i just did my best here :)
About the tracking, there isnt much to say.. i simply used all those
samples, and used "tracker phasing" with some chip-loops to make them
sound less chippy.. uhm, wellknown technique..
And, i tried to keep the mix very "open" .. wanted to avoid swampy
and over-mixed sound. so, there are very big volume differences, and
you need a quite good noise-to-signal ratio to really enjoy the song:)
3. Credits.
Uhm :) All samples are either calculated or sampled+edited by me :)
5. 20MC + 20DC competitions.
This Song was my entry for the 20 dayz music competition which was held
by aMUSiC. Yes, the sample set for this compo was made by me, and maybe
it was not really fair that i entered, because of course i knew the
samples which i created... on the other side, 20 days are really enough
time, i'd say..
The song was only placed second, but i sorta expected a result like
that, since it is very experimental and problematic.. On the other side
it's good that the winner of the compo is not a member of the 20dc
staff. (greetings Beek! .. cool chiptune!:)
A 20dayz compo is usually held of a 20MC (20 minutes) compo series.
Watch out for the next compo period! 20MC compos are really alot of fun,
i really enjoyed that.. :!)

4. Greetings.

batongen, pulse, amusic, the rew, skaven, edge, beek, kb,
chris huelsbeck, marc kamradt, marc-jano-knopp,
mikmak, yaka, bitblazer, tis, mickrip, alpha,
uhm.. all others, you know who you are.. :) .. stay cool :)
hm i hate writing greetings because i always forget many people :)
