The grass was wet and the sun was receeding. Was it 6 o'clock, or four, or
the end of time? Did it matter? I was late, or early, which one I wasn't sure.
She stood there waiting patiently for me. Her golden hair flew in the wind,
like the grass of autumn as it waves along with the gentle tide of nature.
Her sapphire eyes like two worlds of water shining towards me and my dead
world of sand and rock.
I ran out to her and held her in my arms. She smiled and I felt her
warmth close to my heart. The smell of sweet laurels wafted gently into my
senses. I held her at my arms length and marveled at her red curls. Her
warm auburn eyes laughed and bore into me with a feeling like no other,
than fire could do. The smell of roses and seabreeze surrounded both of
us. I held out my heart to her emerald eyes and she seemed to appraise it
with her own warm heart. She brushed the obsidian length of hair out of her
eyes and told me the thing that I will always remember for the rest of my life.

"I love you."

In a million languages it could mean nothing else. I was no longer alone on my
little parody of a planet. No longer at my "home." My heart leapt leagues at the
sound. I felt a million miles from pain or loathing or fear. Love was my only
companion in this realm of light.
              Then slowly it drifted away.
Light and color gave way to darkness and dank dark cold. My heart was frosted
over and I felt no longer that warmth. I drifted into the blackness and watched
as the realm of dreams dissipated around me. I could only see the ceiling of my
room. Once again I was in a world of dust and wind. Rocks and swamp. My heart
now shriveled to a raisin that once was proud.
As I walk down the busy city street hurrying to a Job, or maybe a chore
that I call life, I brace myself against a concrete jungle of madness and death
not with a weapon, nor with a sheild, but a memory. I hold her in my mind now
as I held her in my arms then. I smile. Maybe one day I will see her in this
world. Maybe I will have to wait and see if I meet her once again in hers. But
until then I just fight the madness, with my life in my own weak, trembling
hands. In this maze, this parody of a planet, this... reality. I never told
her that I loved her. What does it matter?
                It was only a dream.
