  5. +++++++++++++++++
  6. A long time ago in the
  7. wild wild west
  8. There lived a musician
  9. the very best
  10. He traveled by horse,
  11. he caused quite a fuss
  12. He stood six feet tall
  13. and his name was Gus
  14. Now one day this fella
  15. rode into town
  16. And began to play
  17. the strangest sound
  18. The legend says
  19. he was in the saloon
  20. When he first conduct-
  21. ed his now famous tune
  22. He walked in bar,
  23. ordered some rum,
  24. Then shortly
  25. thereafter banged on
  26. his steel drum.
  27. Well, this was a noise
  28. these folks didn't
  29. know.
  30. When asked, Gus said
  31. it was called calypso
  32. (See, Gus used to have
  33. a pal named Thomas
  34. Who lived out in the
  35. western Bahamas.
  36. Thomas taught Gus
  37. about how to play
  38. In exchange for a
  39. horse and eight bails
  40. of hay.)
  41. In the back of the
  42. room was a man known
  43. as Jack.
  44. His mustache was thick
  45. and his heart was
  46. black.
  47. While Gus played the
  48. drum, Jack played
  49. poker
  50. But thought to himself
  51. "who is this joker?"
  52. Now Jack may not have
  53. known right from wrong
  54. But one thing's for
  55. sure,
  56. he hated that song
  57. He put his hand on his
  58. gun and his feet on
  59. the floor,
  60. Screamed "That's all
  61. I can stands, I can't
  62. stands no more!"
  63. Jack cocked his six
  64. shooter and aimed for
  65. the head
  66. That son of a bitch
  67. really wanted Gus dead
  68. Thankfully though,
  69. our hero was quick
  70. As he thrusted at Jack
  71. his left drum stick
  72. The throw knocked
  73. Jack's gun right out
  74. of his hand
  75. And soon he proclaimed
  76. "Gus, you're a hell of
  77. a man!"
  78. He was so impressed
  79. he reached under the
  80. bar
  81. And pulled out his
  82. very own six-stringed
  83. guitar!
  84. So what you hear now,
  85. though it may seem
  86. ample
  87. Is merely an itty
  88. bitty wee little
  89. sample
  90. Of the music produced
  91. by that now famous duo
  92. (Backed by a band
  93. they met in Toledo)
  94. If you're wondering
  95. why you've never heard
  96. these boys before
  97. It's because they
  98. played when there was
  99. no record store
  100. My only hope is that
  101. this song brings you
  102. joy
  103. And memorance of Gus,
  104. the Calypso Cowboy!
