Don't like typing too much, but here's the "projection" of the song.


1)You start getting into the swamp and positively believe you're gonna
  cross all of it.

2)As you get inner, the scene changes to a somber, gloomy one assisted by
  the trees and the inanimate water.  The sky is now out of sight. The
  mute sounds of the area make you believe there's no life in there. 
  Shadows lead you to think there may be some movement of something
  unknown. Thus, your initial positive attitude in the crossing starts
  fading away; now filling you with growing despair and fearing you're not
  gonna make it.  But, you keep on.

3)When terror and despair almost possess you completely,  you
  make out the  horizon just ahead, clearing  among the trees. Hope
  returns.When you reach the exiting extreme of the swamp you know you've
  made it.
