( I t ' s O n l y ) A G a m e
by Liam the lemming
[Process Five, Kosmic, Twain]
I had big plans for this tune; a full vocal release, high placing in MC5,
blah blah blah... then it all started to go to bits when I heard Snowman's
plans to impose a 4-minute limit on MC5 entries. Ouch.
So I waited for another compo. I had to fight for even a FOUR-minute limit
at Wired 96, so this was out of the frame there, too.
So. The Party 6.
"...any filetype that Cubic Player 1.7 recognizes..."
...oh bollocks.
So time passed, and I kept it to myself and tried to improve it and it got
somehow steadily worse. Ick. Then, in a burst of inspiration borne of
Leviathan's guitar samples (his own, NOT STOLEN, for the benefit of the
fool judge who thought he'd ripped them!), I tried to fix it.
It worked too; I found myself grabbing a kettledrum and adding some nice
crescendos in the right places, and finding I loved it just as much as I
used to. Hurrah!
And then I grew to loathe it again. DOH!@# Meanwhile, I'd done a kinda
"backing track" version of it, since I'd written this lyric for it, and
BLA BLA BLA. :) Then an idea struck me.
Merge them. =)
This I did, and the backing guitar complements the rest of the tune well
IMO. =) I also slapped the piano back in. For some reason, it sounds
better. Hmm. (Oh, and thanks, EagleFalcon, for helping me see sense. :> )
God knows I tried to keep this within 32 channels, and for the most
part I've succeeded. Nonetheless, it runs up to 40 channels when it hits
the big dramatic kettledrum bit in pattern 11. Look, it's worth it, okay?
The lyrics aren't in here, and don't ask me to send them to you unless I
can trust you not to laugh at them. :> I may release an .MP3 of the full
song, vocals and all... perhaps. :>
That reminds me, I must DO SOMETHING WITH THAT STEREO WAV WRITER soon. :)
Greets to every single member of Kosmic and Process Five, especially
EagleFalcon who coached me through every step of this tune's development.
It was a tough job. :)
Don't hate it *too* much, everyone. :>
