"Way of the exploding fist"
(a conversion of the second song)
originally composed by Neil Brennan on C64 for Melbourne House
OSS conversion on Amiga by Neurodancer/1oo%
This is a "1999" remake of the charming music from the old
classic martial arts fighting game. Back then it impressed me
most for its beautiful background graphics, the wonderful smooth
sprite animations and of course because of the atmospheric music.
I've made "some" additions to the original score: besides that it
uses 12 channels it now plays for about 7 1/2 minutes, and you
could call the piece "three parted" - the first part (after the
intro) is mostly an adaption of the original song, the second
part adds the drums, bass and chords, and the third part (after
my selfmade "interlude") varies the instruments and ends the
whole story.
Actually, the melody lines that are repeated and varied over and
over tend to get a bit boring, and I'm not really satisfied with
the instruments, I changed and changed them throughout working on
the song but I couldn't find instruments that would fit better
than the ones I used now, and I find the mixture between the
"natural" eastern sounding samples and the "artificial"
synthesizer instruments most appealing.
Maybe I might do more C64 conversions in the future, that depends
on the feedback (for "Arkanoid 99" I received only one single
email encouraging me to do more, plus some positive comments on
my BBS - sigh). Nevertheless, in the meantime I have started
quite a few selfmade songs which need to be finished so they
don't get on my nerves any longer. :)
